Credit Score Ranges – What are the
Different Ranges for a Credit Score?
Let’s say your credit score
is a 590, do you know if that’s good? I know I’ve heard people get excited about a score like this only to
find out later that they didn’t know how the scale is set up. It doesn’t start at 0 and end at 1000, which
would be too easy to understand.
So what are the credit score ranges?
Credit scores can are between 300 and 850, the higher the
better. There are grades in the middle but they aren’t absolute. A point difference will rarely mean
much.
So starting at the high end a credit score in the 750 to 850
range is excellent. If you have a score like this you have very few or no negative items reported on your
credit. Getting a good, low interest loan is no problem. If you are here you’re doing a great
job. It’s important to know that a high score with no established credit is pretty useless though. With
no credit history lenders will still be reluctant to lend to you.
A score above 720 is still considered good. You may not
get the prime interest rates but they will still be good. You’re still looking good.
Between 620 and 720 is the fair credit score range. Loans
will be tougher to qualify for and your rates won’t be great. You may want to start improving your credit to
get into the top tiers.
619 to 350 is poor credit. Around a 600
score you may still be able to get a loan but it will be tough. You’ll have to provide more documentation,
you may need a cosigner, and you interest rates will be very high. 500’s and below is not a good place to
be.
